How can I import the recordings made in Voice Memos?
As the current version of Voice Memos does not have an "Open in app" feature, you need to use a computer to transfer the recordings. These are the steps to follow
If you are using macOS Catalina or later:
- On your computer, open a Finder window.
- Connect your iOS device to your computer using a USB cable.
- Select your iOS device in the left part of the Finder window.
- Sync your device by pressing the "Sync" button on the bottom right corner of the screen.
- Once your device is synced, open the Music app and navigate to Library -> Songs using the list on the left.
- Find one of the recordings made with Voice Memos (its album and genre will be Voice Memos) and make a right click on it.
- Choose "Show in Finder". A new window will open in Finder.
- Return to the first Finder window (where your iOS device is selected).
- Click the Files tab.
- Click the triangle next to "Audio Memos".
- Drag and drop files from the second Finder window to the list under "Audio Memos".
If you are not using macOS Catalina or later:
- Open iTunes.
- Plugin your device.
- Sync your device with iTunes by pressing the "Sync" button on the bottom right corner of the screen.
- Once your device is synced, navigate to Library -> Music using the list on the left.
- Find one of the recordings made with Voice Memos (its album and genre will be Voice Memos) and make a right click on it.
- Choose "Show in Finder" or "Show in Windows Explorer" (depending on your OS). A new window will open.
- Return to iTunes.
- Open the page for your device. To do so, check the buttons located on the top of the screen. In the latest version of iTunes, the button to select your device is the last one on the left under the playback controls.
On older versions of iTunes, look under the search box. If you see a "Library" button, press it. Then, if you see a "Devices" button, press it. Then click on your device.
On even older version of iTunes, these buttons will not appear. Instead select your device in the "Device" list displayed on the left. - Select "File Sharing" in the left sidebar. If you do not see it (you are using an older version of iTunes), select the "Apps" tab and scroll to the bottom of the page (there are two lists of app on that page, make sure to scroll to the second one).
- In the "File Sharing" section choose "Audio Memos".
- Drag and drop the recordings from the Finder or Windows Explorer window to the "Documents" list in iTunes.
